2007-07-04 : SRedirect and SBridge Released

Eternity Software is proud to announce the release of two new communication tools:

  • SRedirect is a command line utility to allow a remote TCP/IP connection to a serial (COM) port. SRedirect transmits all data from a TCP/IP client to and from the local serial port.
  • SBridge is a command line utility for connecting TCP/IP servers across networks. Quickly and easily connect two IP address/port combinations to create a bi-directional TCP/IP bridge.

On many of the development projects I have done over the last 10 years, I have often needed to debug analytical instrument communications. One of the real problems is physically getting to the instruments as they are often remote from my workstation. Either I have to work in harsh environments, or if possible drag the instrument back to the workstation. So to access the instrument from a more salubrious location you need to have the communications port connect over a network. That's where SRedirect is invaluable. SRedirect redirects all the communications from a communications port to a TCP/IP client by acting as a TCP/IP server.

Of course often when debugging serial communications there is a need to log all the data transmitted to and from the device as you experiment with different communication types, various commands, etc. And there are times when you need to capture communications between two serial devices connected together. Therefore, SBridge together with SRedirect can bridge two serial devices on the same computer and log all the data transferred between them.

SBridge and SRedirect simplify debugging serial port communications. With these two handy tools solving serial communication issues becomes much easier!
