2007-01-03 : Why rolling your own code is fun

It always seems pointless to create your own code to do something that can be easily downloaded from the net. Thus it would be totally stupid to write your own blogging application now wouldn't it.

But I've just done so :-)

I guess it could be as Spolsky writes (and I cannot find the link anywhere so I may have incorrectly remembered it from his book, or from someone elses) that writing new code is easier than debugging old code. But I prefer to think that back in prehistoric times, let's say pre-internet, the guys who could build fire from scratch and knew how to reinvent the wheel were much more revered in society. Of course these prehistoric nerds probably had brains AND brawn.

So I rolled my own blogging system because I didn't like the WordPress one I installed for Eternity Software. Even though WordPress is a nice blogging program, there are some REAL usablity issues if you try and customise it.
