SRedirect

SRedirect creates a server for ONE local serial communications (COM) port. SRedirect allows connection of a client application. SRedirect transfers data in both directions between the connected client and the local COM port.

SRedirect-Pro allows multiple servers each with a COM port to be created on the same computer. For multiple servers purchase SRedirect-Pro.

How does SRedirect work?

SRedirect is a command line utility. SRedirect creates a TCP/IP server that can be connected to from any TCP/IP client. Serving a serial port for connection by a TCP/IP client is simple. Edit the configuration file to enter the details of the COM port to serve and the port for SRedirect to listen on. Then start SRedirect.

The SRedirect command has the general form:

where configuration of the SRedirect server is provided in the SRedirect configuration file. The configuration file contains the information for specifying the COM port the SRedirect server exposes, as well as configuring the TCP/IP port the SRedirect server listens on. The SRedirect configuration file is a text document easily edited with Notepad or any other text editor.

Installation

There is no installer for SRedirect. Installation is a simple process:

  1. Download the file.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file to any directory (location) on your hard drive. Note: in WindowsXP unzipping is natively supported. In other Windows versions you may need to obtain an unzip program (Google: unzip program).
  3. Add the installation directory to your PATH environment variable.
